Its range is California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, Russia, Japan, and the Korean Peninsula. It can be found from the intertidal zone down 6,600 ft, and is best adapted to cold, oxygen rich water. It is the largest octopus species, with an average weight of 33 lb and an arm span of 14 ft.
